Young Ambassadors
Each year until 2012, School Sport Partnerships across England will recruit young people to take on the role of Young Ambassador for two years. They will work in their local communities championing sport and the ethos and values of the Olympic and Paralympic movement.
By the time the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games reach these shores in 2012, more than 5,000 young people from across the UK will have been through the Young Ambassador programme, which is managed by the Youth Sport Trust on behalf of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF).
They will work hard throughout the year using the inspiration of the Olympics to encourage young people to choose sport and adopt the Olympic and Paralympic values of friendship, courage, determination, excellence, equality, respect and inspiration in their daily lives. They plan to present young people in assemblies, attended primary school events.
To help the Young Ambassadors get started in their role they attended a regional Conference in October, at the home of Exeter Chiefs, where they met real-life Olympians and began to plan how they hope to touch the lives of other young people though their new role.
