South Hams Tag Rugby Tournament 2008
The South Hams Tag Rugby Tournament was held on Wednesday 30 April at Ivybridge Rugby Club. 24 primary school teams attended, representing each of the 4 Learning Communities within the South Hams., with 12 schools playing in the smaller schools’ event and 12 in the larger schools’ event.
This tournament is in its third year and is the result of the excellent links between Ivybridge Learning Community and Ivybridge Rugby Club and is also supported by Rob Masters the Regional Rugby Development Officer.
30 College students from years 12 and 13 helped with the event by officiating and undertaking roles such as refereeing, line judging and score keeping.
Unfortunately the weather was a little unkind and the event was cut short after the pool matches. The semi finals and finals for the top 2 teams in each of the smaller and larger schools’ competitions will now take place on Monday 19 May at Ivybridge community College. The smaller school teams are Ermington A, Loddiswell A, Salcombe and Yealmpton. The larger school teams are Manor A, Stowford A and B and Thurlestone. On this evening there will also be play-offs between the smaller school and larger school winners to decide which team will represent the South Hams in tag rugby at this year’s Devon Youth Games, which will be held in Plymouth on Saturday 28 June.
Congratulations to all the schools who took part for their excellent play and the good spirit in which games were played. Many thanks to all the adults who helped and supported the event and particular thanks to the students from Ivybridge College for their leadership skills.
