Activemark, Sportsmark and Sports Partnership Mark 2008

For the 3rd year, the annual awards will reward delivery of the national PE & Sport Strategy. Schools will be automatically assessed for one of the marks through the national school sport survey, which all School Sport Partnership schools take part in.   

Activemark 2008

Schools will receive the mark if:

  • At least 90% of pupils across the school were doing at least 2 hours high quality PE and school sport a week.

Notes on calculating Activemark:
The following schools will be selected for Activemark: Nursery, Primary, Middle deemed Primary, as well as Special schools / PRUs / Independent schools with primary aged children. 

Primary schools with infant classes will be treated as any other Primary school.

Only those schools with pupils in Year 1 and/or Year 2 AND have no other pupils in Years 3-13 will be treated as an ‘infant schools’.

Sportsmark 2008

Schools will receive the mark if:

  • at least 90% of pupils across the school were doing at least 2 hours high quality PE and school sport a week.

Notes on calculating Sportsmark:
The following schools will be selected for Sportsmark: Secondary, Middle deemed Secondary, Academies, City Technology Colleges, as well as Special schools / PRUs / Independent schools with secondary aged children.

Sports Partnership Mark 2008

Partnerships will receive the mark if:

  • at least 90% of pupils across the partnership were doing at least 2 hours high quality PE and school sport each week.

Notes on calculating the Sports Partnership Mark:
Independent schools will be counted in the calculations for the Sports Partnership Mark.

Awarding Process

  • An e-mail will be sent to Partnership Development Managers informing them of the schools in their partnership who have been awarded an Activemark or Sportsmark.
  • They will then be able to download the logos from the School Sport Xchange for them to distribute to schools.
  • Certificates will be sent directly to schools.

Frequently asked questions

1. How long will the award last?

The kitemarks are awarded each year — automatically through the school sport survey — so last for 12 months from when the awards are announced.

2. Are the kitemarks open to independent schools?

If an independent school is linked to a School Sport Partnership and takes part in the school sport survey, then they will be eligible for either the Activemark or Sportsmark. They are also included in the calculation for the Sports Partnership Mark.

3. I’m an independent school, how do I become involved in a School Sport Partnership?

4. Are the awards open to special schools and PRUs?

Yes as long as the special school/PRU is within a school sport partnership and takes part in the annual school sport survey then it will be automatically assessed for one of the kitemarks.  Special schools/PRUs with primary aged pupils will be assessed for Activemark, those with secondary aged pupils will be assessed for Sportsmark.

5. What does the school get?

Each school which qualifies for one of the kitemarks will receive a certificate.  The school will also be able to use the kitemark logo for the relevant year on their headed paper and other documentation.

6. What’s the process for next year?

To ensure that the kitemarks remain relevant and in-line with the ambitions of the PE & Sport Strategy for Young People, the intention is to the review the criteria, through consultation. Details will follow in the New Year.
